In this article, we will summarize the Proto Space Deck 2 from dimensions to weight to riding characteristics.
The brand Proto Scooters has been around since 2008 and is responsible for some of the highest quality components on the market. The most popular are wheels from Proto. Next, it will definitely be the most innovative compression system for a scooter, invented and patented by Andrew Broussard - SCS. It is definitely worth mentioning the solid handlebars and forks, which unfortunately are no longer produced, but the future looks promising and from Proto we may see new and quality forks again in the coming years.
However, the most legendary component is the Proto Space deck.
The space deck is composed of two pieces. Neck and deck-plate, which are connected by 6 hex socket screws. On the entire board, we won't find a single weld, thus eliminating any point for breaking or cracking. The fact that the board is composed of two pieces allows it to be combined in any way according to the rider's needs. The neck is made from a single piece and cut using CNC methods. It has undergone many years of testing by the team riders of Proto Scooters. During the testing of the new integrated and lightweight neck, only one broke, and that was after 3 years.Dimensions:
The deck is square at the back.
At the end of the deck, there is a place for pegs or deck-ends from Proto. These deck-ends ensure smooth grinding and protect the board from wear. When you feel like your decks are worn out, just order new ones. Exactly, also deck-plate or neck. If something happens to one of the main components of the board, just buy a new one. This way, you don't need to buy a whole new board, just a part of it, which will definitely save you money. The board weighs approximately 2kg, so you'll enjoy street riding more on the board. This board is delivered without a brake, however, it has one very interesting and important patent. UBS, or Universal Brake System. This means that the board is ready and compatible with most springless brakes on the market (e.g. Chilli Flex, Bestial Wolf brake).
This board is neither one of the widest on the market nor one of the lightest, but it has something special about it. Since I was little, I have been watching this board in videos and imagining what it's like to ride it. In the end, quite pleasant overall. Thanks to (also my) smaller dimensions, I don't perceive the weight of the board so drastically. Due to its smaller dimensions (5x22), it is still quite agile, fast, and sufficiently sturdy. Grinding on this board is divine. Even despite the smaller width, I can still hold grinds beautifully and stably, and I still don't need pegs for 50-50 or 5-0 grinds. The deck plate is almost completely flat on the underside. Another advantage is the huge blunt space, the area between the front wheel and the deck neck, where I can comfortably and easily perform a blunt grind or overcrook.
Overall, it is a great street board with an amazing history and a system like no other. I definitely recommend it to street riders and anyone who has found a love for Proto.
