Tomáš Lorenc: Close to death 2019

22. January 2020

Hey there, it's Lorenzo again,

As you probably know from the video and hearsay, I seriously fell during training on the big air into the airbag (10. September 2019).

In the video, you will see a capture of my entire year 2019, both in terms of riding and we will also talk about my fall.

In 2019, I had more than one surgery, I also had elbow surgery where they had to create an entirely new joint due to frequent falls, but to the point...

When I reminisce a little... but what am I talking about, I don't remember anything.

When I heard the whole story after I woke up in pain in the hospital, not breathing in the ICU at the UVN hospital in Prague, I didn't want to believe it happened, but when I looked at myself, it was immediately clear to me.

The first thing I heard was "boy, you're damn lucky to be alive," then my brother came and told me everything as the guys described it to him.

We were having a great time with the crew at the Ritchparadise opening, and there were lots of amazing tricks being performed, but none of us had any idea that something like this would happen in just a few minutes, seconds.

I was doing a classic trick (cash roll), which almost became fatal for me. I jerked so much and to the side that I completely missed the airbag and fell from the supposed 10-15m next to the airbag onto the dirt.

Fortunately, I threw the scooter away and didn't fall on it or it on me, I fell so well that I landed flat on my back (even so, it's not good, but according to the doctors, it was the best way I could have landed).

Fortune favored me in that I was surrounded by great friends who promptly intervened and didn't hesitate for a second; they were immediately by my side and called the paramedics, who dispatched a helicopter due to the serious injury, as it was a matter of minutes.

As soon as I arrived, the doctors took me to the operating room, where I spent 6 and a half hours. I had ruptured kidneys, ruptured liver, ruptured lungs, something with the digestive tract, basically everything a person needs to live.

But I was in great hands and it worked out, I SURVIVED.

Even after that, it wasn't fun and it still isn't, but I LIVE!!!

I would like to thank Petr Macháček, Olda Marek, Ríša Zelinka, Johan Walzel, Adam Čermák, Jirka Navara, and everyone for their support from both friends and family. I am surrounded by great people, THANK YOU!!!
