Freestyle Scooters for Beginners

In this category you will find freestyle scooters designed for complete beginners. They are ideal for first rides in the skatepark and on the street and help riders learn basic tricks, jumps and scooter control.

Beginner models are designed to be affordable, easy to control and durable enough for first training sessions. The main differences between individual scooters are usually in the bar height, deck dimensions and wheel type.

 

🛞 Wheel type: plastic or aluminum core

For beginner freestyle scooters, the main thing people usually look at is the difference between plastic-core and aluminum-core wheels. This is usually what determines what type of rider the scooter is suitable for.

Freestyle scooters with plastic-core wheels
These models are mainly suitable for smaller and lighter kids who are just starting with freestyle scooters. The scooter construction is designed for lower loads and calmer beginnings.
Plastic wheels are cheaper, but under heavier load or harder impacts they may wear out faster or crack.
Freestyle scooters with aluminum-core wheels
These scooters are suitable for older kids or heavier beginners who want a stronger and more durable setup.
The aluminum wheel core is significantly stronger and handles harder landings during tricks better.
❌ Most common mistake: choosing the absolute cheapest scooter for an older child based only on price. With higher weight, weaker components wear out much faster.
 

🧭 How to choose a freestyle scooter for a beginner

  • Rider height – the correct bar height has a major impact on scooter control.
  • Rider weight – heavier riders should choose a stronger construction.
  • Wheel type – plastic wheels for smaller kids, aluminum-core wheels for older beginners.
  • Room to grow – if you know the rider will grow or ride often, a stronger model is worth it.

Scooter load capacity is often listed around 100 kg. But you need to keep in mind that during jumps the load increases several times over.
