The deck of a freestyle scooter is probably the most important part of every scooter. There are boards for beginners, intermediate, and advanced riders. We sell various types of decks, different sizes, with concave, without concave, one-piece neck and two-piece neck, for integrated headset, etc. Each board has different characteristics, and choosing the right board is crucial for the quality of the ride. 

Decks for freestyle scooters are mainly distinguished as integrated and non-integrated. This will tell us what type of headset and fork to use. For non-integrated frames, headsets with cups can be used. We can also use a threaded headset. Only industrial headsets without cups can be used on integrated boards. The advantage of the integrated board is that the cups are machined and you place the bearing directly into the board. It is not possible to use a headset with ball bearings for a threaded fork headset. Another factor in the selection is whether the neck of the board is made from one or multiple pieces. The more pieces, the more welds, and the greater the risk of cracking. Boards made from a single piece are much stronger.

What are the differences between a park board and a street board?

Skatepark Decks:

  • are generally shorter and lighter, narrower, more maneuverable
  • may crack earlier when used on the street

Street decks:

  • they are generally longer and more robust, wider, heavier
  • they are much stronger, but tricks are harder to perform on them
  • they usually have a neck made from one piece

OUR TIP:

HOW TO EXTEND THE LIFESPAN OF A BOARD

  • do not grind on curbs or concrete blocks (you can wear the deck down to the reinforcements or welds, the deck may crack sooner, see. photo)
  • avoid riding in puddles
  • wax the bottom of the board thoroughly
  • avoid dropping from great heights
  • jump into landings, not onto platforms
  • land tricks straight, not at an angle (it affects the wheels and the board)

WHAT NOT TO FORGET WHEN BUYING A BOARD

  • Light boards do not have as long a lifespan as heavy ones, but they are easier to perform tricks with.
  • Heavy decks have a longer lifespan, but they rotate more slowly during tricks.
  • You can change grip tapes as often as you want/need, just remember to clean the board before each new application.
